I am an artist, photographer and art teacher blogging about the world as I experience it and sharing what I find interesting. A selection of my work is available from www.saatchionline.com/Sophiemayersart, or directly from me. Please contact me with any queries. Thanks for your time.
The inspiration word for The Arts School‘s 52 week challenge this week is SELF. I am using it to reflect on where I am with my own art practise and what I want to do this year.
It’s great to spend some time stopping to look both in and out.
So far (it’s day one!) I am seeing a renewed interest in how “we” are effecting the environment around us (my BA final project was on this), story telling (which my MA thesis considered), and lots of exploring materials.
The Arts School will start running day courses in Drawing and Mark making and Reflective Practise. Come and spend the day on a beautiful farm in East Sussex. 60 acres of woods, fields and lakes. A delicious lunch is included, provided by Sam. So excited! A few spaces left for our intro day on July 8th and confirmed dates to follow!
Having actually got up early to take the dogs to the seaside I got home to deal with a giant marrow I was given.
With it I made:
ginger and narrow jam,
ginger, orange and current cakes
froze the spare marrow for later
The extra flour I tried out some rough pastry. Who knew it was so easy! Get flour, frozen butter, salt, pepper and a little water. Grate frozen butter, mix it together, stick it in the fridge for half an hour, make tarts (Filled with homemade marrow chutney and goats cheese) and eat!
